This painting is of a scene from my kayak at Little Grassy Lake in the Shawnee National Forest. I wanted to showcase the American lotus that blooms in the early summer, and I always try to go visit during that season. I am very proud of how I captured the light reflecting on the still water of the little cove.

From the Kayak
With this series of paintings, I put the viewer in the kayak seat. These are meant to be viewed from the perspective of the kayak, so please view them with the boat centered to you. My goal here is to celebrate the beauty in Southern IL that can only be seen from a kayak or boat. We are surrounded by a rich amount of interesting lakes, creeks, and rivers to paddle. Kayaking is a fun way to improve mental and physical health. I find myself most at peace when I am on my boat.
